Chugoku district’s highest mountain, located in Daisen-Oki National Park
Mt. Daisen is also called “Hoki Fuji” because of its noble, impressive appearance that resembles Mt. Fuji. Around the top of the mountain, Daisen Kyaraboku (type of needle-leaf tree), a protected plant species, grows wild. The entire base of Mt. Daisen is home to a variety of alpine plant and wild bird species, and has been designated as Daisen-Oki National Park. Many people visit Mt. Daisen, which offers various seasonal attractions. In spring, it is fun to view the lush greenery and to gather bracken. In summer, people enjoy camping and mountain climbing. In fall, the mountain is covered with beautiful red and yellow leaves. And in winter, Mt. Daisen serves as one of western Japan’s best ski resorts.
