Simple Gourmet Guide to Kansai

 

 

Relish the flavors unique to Kansai.

There are many reasonably priced delicious dishes in Kansai. The treasure ouse of Food Kansai not only has serious gourmet fares but also common dishes that you can enjoy casually. Relish the diverse flavors that originated in Kansai.
 
   
 
 
 

Ramen

In Kansai you can enjoy many kinds of delicious Ramen (Japanese noodles). In Kyoto, Wakayama and Tokushima, you can savor Ramen in flavors unique to Each locale.
 

Omrice

Omrice was born in a Western food restaurant in Osaka. The soft eggs and ketchup flavored rice is perfect.
 

Kobe beef

Kobe beef is very famous in the world. You can savor really delicious Kobe beef in Kansai.
         
 
 

Okonomiyaki

Typical local food of Osaka. Choose your favorite vegetable, meat, seafood, source and put them on dough to fry. It is delicious and healthy!

 

Takoyaki

Takoyaki is the synonym for the flavors of Osaka next to Okonomiyaki. It is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

 

Kushikatsu

This dish is believed to have been originated in Kansai. Seasonal ingredients are skewered and deep fried crisply. It is the flavor for the populace.

         
 
 

Kakinoha Sushi

The specialty of Nara Yoshino region. Salted mackerel is laid on top of the sushi rice, which is wrapped in persimmon leaf. It is deliciously fragrant.

 

Semmaizuke

Kyoto’s traditional pickles made of thinly sliced Kyoto vegetable(Shogoin Kabura turnip and kombu seaweed.)

 

Narazuke

The specialty of Nara. Vegetables such as cucumbers are pickled in Sake lees, with a unique aroma and sweetness.

         
 
 

Kitsune Udon

Osaka’s original noodle with good flavor. The combination of smooth Udon, sweet and savory fried bean curd and light soup is perfect.

 

Wagashi

Kyoto is the birthplace of Wagashi(Japanese confectionary). In Kyoto you can enjoy confectionaries made with an abundance of Matcha (powdered green tea) from Uji, the home of tea.

 

Yogashi

Kobe is the hometown of western confectionary in Japan. Kobe has a long
history of confectionary, so you can enjoy really delicious western confect ionaries in Kobe.

 
     

   
 

Home of Sake - Kansai

Kansai is a region where the homes of Sake converge, including Nada and Fushimi.
Blessed with quality water, rice and climate perfect for making Sake, it has been producing many famous Sakes. Just as the Sake from Nada is dry and the one from Fushimi is sweet, not one Sake is the same. Sample different Sakes to find your favorite one.
